"Art for Justin" Fundraising Benefit

Sunny
Days Ahead
Justin created this finger painting in rehabilitation
therapy, using his left hand & arm since he has very
limited use of his dominant right hand.
His therapist drew the outline and Justin
followed it, then added the sun & flowers.
Prints ready for an 8x10 frame are $20 --
email or call me at 970-635-9843 to order.

Justin's
Senior Picture
Until March 2nd, Justin Batchelder was a very active, happy
senior at Pomona High School in Arvada.
His passions include basketball & swimming; he volunteered
with youth sports & worked as a life guard. He played the
guitar and was a self-taught artist.
He dreamed of college &
a career in Culinary Arts.

Justin
Graduates!
Thanks
to the efforts of many, many people Justin was able to graduate
with his class May 14th.
We didn't dare hope that he would actually be able to make the
trip to the CU Event Center, but he did!
It was an emotional evening, with Justin receiving a long &
very loud cheer from his fellow classmates, friends, and families.
We are all so incredibly proud of Justin for completing his
final assignments and for having the courage and determination
to achieve this milestone.
I'll
be using this page to post major milestone updates of Justin's
healing journey over the next few months.

Justin needs and
deserves your help! He's a 'good' kid; kind & gentle, courteous
& mindful of others. He's always paid his own way, working
to buy two cars, including a '65 Mustang he bought as an investment
at age 14.
Like any kid, he
dreamed of college and a career focusing on his passion for
cooking. His dreams were shattered March 2nd, 2009, when he
accepted a ride with a 19-year old man who was visiting a
neighbor. Over Justin's screamed protests, the driver raced
his car on a winding foothills road, lost control, and rolled
many times down an embankment. Justin suffered critical injuries.
The driver walked away & faces felony charges; he had
minimal insurance.
While in critical
care, Justin survived several surgeries and complications.
He's left with a spinal cord injury and is paralyzed from
the chest down. He's now at Craig Hospital, undergoing rehabilitation
for the next several months. Justin's insurance covers only
a portion of the costs.
Justin has incredible spirit, humor, & determination. He is working hard to regain as much independence as his body will allow -- he hopes to walk again someday.
Anyone wishing
to help can send a gift check payable to "J.
Batchelder" to 3909 Buena Vista Dr., Loveland, CO

line. Thanks so much to those of you who have
already sent a gift; please email me if you would like a thank-you
note from the family.
Please remember
Justin in your thoughts & prayers. He appreciates it as
do his Dad Scott, Mom Shawna, Stepdad Dave, and all the rest
of the family.
